What are Dental Crowns and Bridges?

It is always possible to gain your beautiful smile back, thanks to the tooth replacement solutions offered by our dentist. Ask Dr. Rechidi, at Clinique Dentaire WM Dorval about it today.

  • Crowns:

The dental crown acts as a cover to the tooth and therefore protects it. A crown is generally recommended for broken teeth, for teeth that have had root canal treatment or to cover teeth that had a history of frequent restorative fillings. When a tooth is significantly damaged, the dentist should recommend covering it with a crown to prevent future damage to that tooth.

  • Dental Bridge:

The bridge is anchored on the teeth neighbouring a void and is used to replace one or more missing teeth. If a tooth is lost, the Canadian Dental Association recommends replacing it with an artificial tooth as soon as possible, to prevent alteration of the alignment of the rest of the intact teeth and to avoid complications related to the jaw. Unaligned teeth are more difficult to clean, and are more prone to periodontal disease (gum disease) and cavities. If you are missing one or more teeth, your dentist may recommend that you replace them with a bridge or prosthesis.
