ROOT CANAL TREATMENT

root canal

What is a Root canal?

According to the Canadian Dental Association, a successful root canal treatment will help preserve your tooth rather than having to have it extracted, when its nerve gets infected. By keeping your natural tooth, you will prevent the rest of your teeth from losing their alignment, as well as other potential complications related to the jaw. You will also avoid having to replace your natural tooth with an artificial one.

What is a root canal treatment?

The canal is the space inside the hard layers of a tooth. It is filled with a soft tissue called the

“Dental pulp.”The dental pulp contains the nerves and blood vessels that allow the healthy development of the tooth. Bacteria (microbes) can cause an abscess to form by entering your tooth through deep cavities, cracks, or damaged fillings. An abscess is the result of an infection of the dental pulp.

Root canal therapy, also known as endodontic therapy, involves removing infected, damaged or dead pulp from the tooth. Your dentist can detect the infection using a dental x-ray or by observing other changes on your tooth. If left untreated, the abscess can lead to serious oral health problems.
